1. Sustainability:  Site Footprint Assessment

Concerto AL Piano will develop its planning guidelines and make an ecological footprint assessment, before and after Concerto implementation. The Site Footprint will be based on an innovative assessment method, easy to predict and largely replicable. Based on estimating the level of performance for 8 different indicators: energy, mobility, air, water, waste, soil, materials, bio-diversity. These indicators will be categorised into three different levels: current practice, best practice, exemplar practice

 

2. Technology Catalogue:  Concerto AL Piano eco-technologies

Concerto AL Piano includes a significant number technologies and application schemes. The schemes involve the utilisation of a number of integrated technologies. The following factors will be considered:

- predicted impact of technology with respect to energy use

- the “level of innovation” associated with the energy technology and the potential impact on the current market

- scope for replication of measure in future schemes

In order to facilitate dissemination to a wider audience and encourage take up of energy technologies, an individual draft report format will be produced for each technological sector of Concerto AL Piano: 1.Energy Efficiency -  2.Renewables – 3.Lighting – 4.Materials – 5.Vegetation – 6.Waste – 7.Water – 8.Mobility

The report contains the following key sections:  Overview of scheme; Description of technology; Application; Benefits; Recommendations for designers and promoters

 

3. Benchmarking: Technical and Non-Technical Indicators

Tools for benchmarking sustainable technologies and categorising the materials and components by their eco-characteristics, either by eco-labels or certificates of being green or low emitting materials. A plan with major environmental (and energy) features organized in a comprehensive and coherent way, including a list for relevant indicators of a universal character

Application: Matrix of equipments, technologies, components and materials to be employed in the whole urban project commented and qualified in terms of environment impact or life cycle cost analysis or gas emissions.

The Energy Conservation Scheme of Concerto AL Piano summarizes the basic energy-building data, such as: total number of dwellings; global dwellings surface and volume; annual thermal energy consumption; electricity consumption; global calculated emissions. The building stock of AL Piano District is aggregated and subsequently processed by  means of the dwelling energy code method. The 32 dwelling energy codes are indexed in a series of forms, reporting on their basic energy characteristics.

For each Dwelling Energy Code is likely to associate a variety of Energy Conservation Opportunities, included into the AL Piano catalogue. These are measures that could be subsidised by the Concerto AL Piano together with the City of Alessandria. The catalogue is the result of a selection among the most recurrent energy conservation and substitution techniques. Through the appropriate choice of a mix of Energy Conservation Substitution Opportunities, one can compare various energy-building policies at the town level, to yield the "energy-policy making" on a very detailed scale.
